You probably have heard of the myth that traveling is only for the rich, that only those people who have money can afford to travel.

However, many travelers nowadays would beg to disagree. Not everyone among those who have been able to set their feet on this adventure simply picked money from the trees. If there’s one thing they would agree on, that is the belief that it is possible to save money for travel.

How?

Be creative in saving money.

Spend less, save more, earn extra cash on the side.

The following are some doable ways to help you rethink and start saving money for travel:

1. Make a commitment.

This is a commitment that one day will become hard to stick to, that is why having the right mindset is the start.

How much do you want this? Think about that and commit yourself to it. Nobody else will make it happen for you!

Do you believe you are serious about it? Then you are ready for the second

2. Track your spending.

Dedicate a day on doing this. Go through all your accounts to find out exactly what your finances look like, down to the last penny. Look for the places where you’re routinely spending just a couple. This is important to know where you can cut back, or even what you can eliminate.

3. Make a budget.

The first step in saving for a vacation is planning for it. Plan where you want to go, where you want to stay, and what you want to do while you’re out there. As you do your research, keep a running tally of the total cost of airfare, accommodations, and food and activities. Then take the total estimated cost and calendar it. Count how many weeks until you would like to leave and divide your cost by the time you need to save. You now have an idea of how much you need to set aside each week in order to afford your dream trip.

4. Develop habits that save you money.

You now have the vision. You now have the motivation. Now it’s time to roll your sleeves and work to reach the goal.

Think of daily expenses you can replace with money-saving habits. What skills can you learn that will cut your daily costs? For instance, how about getting a little earlier, skipping the bus and walking/riding a bike to work instead?

Think. Think. Think. Drastic measures are oftentimes uncomfortable, but effective.

Then act on it.

5. Cut out convenience.

After seeing where your money goes and realize where you are spending it just for convenience, you can now decide to cut out these purchases. It is an unfortunate fact, however undeniable, that little purchases add up.

Another thing: cancel your subscriptions. You’re likely spending hundreds of dollars on different services that basically offer the same thing.

Believe it, you can save a considerable amount by removing them.

6. Buy in bulk.

This is not always the best option, but you may consider it. For the items that you are constantly using, this is the best way to save a few bucks. Daily items are best bought in larger quantities. There is also an option to order in bulk online from Amazon Pantry (https://www.amazon.com/gp/pantry/info/) and they will have it all delivered to you.

7. Make extra money on the side.

Who doesn’t want to earn more money? There are a lot of opportunities to earn extra money even if you already have a full-time job. It doesn’t need to be an amazing job, just something to boost your income a bit. Do some research and figure out what kind of part-time positions match your skill set and talents.
